Restore and strengthen your teeth with dental inlays and onlays. If you’re seeking a durable solution for tooth restoration that goes beyond traditional fillings but doesn’t require a full crown, our dental inlays and onlays at Willow Dental might be the perfect option.

These treatments are designed to repair teeth with moderate decay or damage, offering a conservative approach that preserves as much of your natural tooth as possible. Crafted from high-quality materials like porcelain or composite resin, inlays and onlays fit perfectly into damaged areas, strengthening teeth and enhancing the aesthetic appeal. Ideal for back teeth that undergo considerable chewing force, they provide a long-lasting repair that blends seamlessly with your natural smile.

  • How are dental inlays and onlays applied?

Applying dental inlays and onlays typically involves two visits to our office. During the first visit, decayed or damaged areas of the tooth are carefully removed, and the tooth is prepared for the inlay or onlay. Impressions of the tooth are then taken and sent to a dental lab where the inlay or onlay is custom-made from porcelain, composite resin, or gold. A temporary sealant is applied to protect the tooth while the restoration is being made. The temporary sealant is removed at the second appointment, and the inlay or onlay is precisely fitted and bonded to the tooth with a strong resin adhesive. The restoration is then polished to ensure a smooth and natural feel.

  • When should I consider a dental inlay or onlay?

Dental inlays and onlays are ideal alternatives to crowns when the tooth’s damage or decay is too extensive for a filling but not severe enough to necessitate a full crown. You should consider inlays or onlays if you have a fractured tooth, large cavities, or old fillings that need replacement. They are particularly suitable for the chewing surfaces of the back teeth and provide excellent durability and protection for weakened teeth, helping to prevent further deterioration while restoring functionality and aesthetics.
